Printable Moving Checklist: 8 Weeks to Move Day

Most moving stress comes from small tasks that pile up at the end. This printable moving checklist spreads them out over eight weeks, in the order our Move Director walks guests through them, so move day is calm and nothing is forgotten.

8 weeks before your move

• Schedule your free reservation call and choose your move date.
• Start a moving folder for your move plan, receipts and new home paperwork.
• Walk each room and decide what moves, what you sell or donate, and what you toss.
• Ask your new building or HOA about move rules, elevator times and certificate of insurance needs.
• If your closing dates may not line up, ask about storage between homes.

6 weeks before

• Reserve your move date with a $100 deposit.
• Decide on full service or partial packing, or plan to pack yourself.
• Gather school, medical and veterinary records.
• Book removal and donation for items you are not taking.
• Use up frozen and pantry food you do not want to move.

4 weeks before

• Submit your change of address with USPS and update banks, employers and subscriptions.
• Schedule utility shutoff at the old home and service start at the new one: electric, gas, water, trash, internet.
• Start packing rooms you use least: basement, attic, guest rooms and off season clothes. See our packing checklist.
• Measure large furniture and doorways at the new home.

2 weeks before

• Confirm your move date, arrival window and both addresses with our team.
• Arrange parking at both homes, including any permits your town requires.
• Plan care for kids and pets on move day.
• Refill prescriptions and set aside important documents to carry yourself.
• Have an electrician disconnect chandeliers or fixtures that are moving.

1 week before

• Finish packing everything except daily essentials.
• Pack an essentials box for each family member: clothes, chargers, medications, toiletries.
• Defrost and dry the refrigerator and freezer if they are moving.
• Drain fuel from mowers and outdoor equipment.
• Label every box with its room and a short list of contents.

The day before

• Pack your first night box: sheets, towels, paper plates, coffee, snacks, basic tools.
• Set aside valuables, jewelry, cash and documents to carry with you.
• Clear a path through each room and leave doors unlocked or keys ready.
• Charge your phone and watch for your crew photo and names from us.

Move day

• Follow your crew on the live GPS tracking link.
• Walk the home with your crew lead before loading starts.
• Point out fragile items and anything that should not go on the truck.
• Do a final walkthrough of every room, closet and cabinet before the truck leaves.
• At the new home, show the crew where each room is and where furniture goes.

After the move

• Unpack the essentials and first night box first.
• Check every room for anything missing and call us at 215-622-8140 with questions.
• Update your driver license and vehicle registration with PennDOT if you moved within Pennsylvania.
• Register to vote at your new address.
• Leave us a Google review to tell others about your move.
