Piano, Safe and Oversized-Item Movers
Piano movers for uprights and grands, plus gun safes and oversized items, in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, Lehigh and Berks Counties plus Philadelphia.
Pianos and safes are where moving goes wrong. They’re heavy, top-heavy and awkward, so a mistake on a staircase can damage the item, the house or a person. Better Choice Moving moves pianos, gun safes, home safes and other oversized items with the right equipment, the right number of people, and a plan for every step, turn and doorway. Call 215-622-8140.

What our piano and safe movers handle
- Pianos: upright, spinet and console pianos, plus grands and baby grands (tell us the make and size when you call)
- Safes: gun safes, home safes and small office safes
- Oversized furniture: armoires, china cabinets, large sectionals, sleeper sofas and solid-wood pieces
- Stone and glass: marble, granite and glass tabletops and heavy mirrors
- Fitness equipment: treadmills, ellipticals and home gym machines
- Commercial heavy items: large printers, copiers and office safes. See commercial moving
How our piano movers work safely
- Assessment first. During your estimate, we’ll ask about the item’s size and weight and walk the path in and out: stairs, landings, door widths, turns, thresholds and the ground outside.
- Right equipment. Depending on the item, that can mean piano boards, heavy-duty dollies, straps, ramps and plenty of padding, especially on stairs.
- Right crew size. We send enough trained people to control the item at every point, especially on stairs.
- Protection. Floors, stairs, door frames and walls get padded before the item moves, and the item itself is wrapped to protect its finish.
- Meet your crew before move day. We send a photo and the names of your movers, so you know who is coming.
- Track your crew live. On move day you get a live GPS tracking link to follow your crew to your door.
- Placement. Then we set it exactly where you want it. For safes, that might be a basement, closet or garage corner.
- Move Director follow-up. After the move, your Move Director checks in personally to make sure everything went right.
Local homes, local challenges
Heavy items are especially tough in older homes. For example, think of narrow staircases in Main Line stone homes and Central Bucks farmhouses, steep front steps on Allentown and Norristown rowhomes, and basements with tight turns all over the region. So we plan for the house as much as the item. In new construction, we also take extra care with fresh floors and drywall corners.
Tuning and specialty notes
- Piano tuning: Pianos usually need tuning after a move, once they’ve settled into the new room’s temperature and humidity. So it’s best to schedule your tuner a couple of weeks after delivery.
- Bolted safes: If your safe is bolted to the floor, it needs to be unbolted before moving day. Let us know when you book.
- Very large or unusual items: Tell us exactly what it is, and send photos if you can, so we bring the right equipment and crew.
Moving a piano or safe as part of a full move
Most of our piano and safe moves are part of a residential move or a long-distance move. We can also move a single item on its own, for example between rooms, out of an estate, or to a new home. When a piano or safe is being removed for good, our junk removal team can take it. For antiques and fine furniture, see white-glove moving.

Frequently asked questions
Do you move grand pianos?
Tell us the make, model and size when you call 215-622-8140. We’ll walk through the access at both homes, then confirm the plan and crew.
Can you move a gun safe down basement stairs?
Yes, in most homes. We assess the stairs, landings and turns first, then use the right equipment and crew size to move it safely.
Will my piano need tuning after the move?
Usually, yes. Let it settle in its new room for a couple of weeks, then have it tuned.
Can you move just one heavy item?
Yes. We also move single pianos, safes and oversized pieces, not just full households.
Do you remove old pianos?
Yes. If you’re getting rid of a piano, our junk removal team can take it out of your home.
