You found the buyer. You found the new house. Then the calendar does what calendars do around here: your sale closes on the 15th and your new place isn’t ready until the end of the month. Or the builder in Upper Bucks pushes your new construction back six weeks. Or the kitchen remodel in Lansdale “just needs a little longer.”
If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Closing gaps are one of the most common things we help families with across Montgomery, Bucks, Berks, Chester and Lehigh counties. The good news is you don’t need two moving companies, a rental truck and a storage unit to get through it. You need one plan.
What a closing date gap really costs you
A gap between homes sounds simple on paper. In real life it usually turns into a chain of extra work:
- Packing and loading a rental truck yourself
- Unloading everything into a self-storage unit
- Loading it all back out weeks later
- Hauling it to the new house and unloading it again
That’s four times your furniture gets handled, and every one of those trips is another chance for a scratched table or a dinged doorframe. It also eats your weekends right when you’re trying to change addresses, set up utilities and keep the kids on schedule.
How move-and-store works with Better Choice Moving
Move-and-store puts the whole thing in one set of hands. Here’s how it works with our family-run team:
- Plan it together. We start with a free reservation consultation. Reserve a 15-minute pre-move call with our Move Director online, or call 215-622-8140 and our Reservations Manager will set up your private home walkthrough. We talk through what’s moving, your closing date and your best guess at the move-in date. Best guesses are fine. Dates change, and we plan for that.
- Pack and load once. On moving day our uniformed crew protects your current home with floor runners and padded doorways and banisters, wraps every piece of furniture in moving blankets and loads it carefully. If you’d rather not pack yourself, add full or partial packing.
- Private vault storage in Quakertown. Your belongings go into private storage vaults at our own warehouse at 420 Station Rd in Quakertown. We run it ourselves, so your things never get handed off to a third party, and you always know who has them.
- Deliver when you’re ready. When the new house is ready, we bring your vaults out, unload, set furniture where it belongs and place boxes room by room.
One move proposal, one point of contact and one crew from start to finish. You can read more on our moving and storage page.
Private vault storage vs. renting a storage unit
People often ask whether they should just rent a unit and handle it themselves. Here’s the honest comparison:
- Handling. With a self-storage unit, you load and unload on every trip. With private vault storage, your things are loaded at your home and stay put until delivery.
- Labor. A unit means renting a truck and lining up help twice. With us, the same trained crew handles both ends.
- Peace of mind. A unit is a padlock and a hope. Our warehouse is a working facility run by our own team.
- Your time. Move-and-store frees up the weekends you’d otherwise spend hauling boxes.
Every move is different, so ask us for a move proposal and compare it side by side with the do-it-yourself route.
Who uses move-and-store around here
After about 2,500 happy moves, we’ve seen just about every reason for a gap between homes:
- Buyers and sellers with closing gaps. The most common one. Sell first, store for a few weeks or months, and move in once.
- New construction families. Builds in Upper Bucks, the Lehigh Valley and western Montgomery County often run long. We hold your things until you get the keys.
- Renovations. Floors, kitchens and additions go faster in an empty house. We store your furniture and bring it back when the dust settles.
- Relocating families. Renting short term while you house hunt? Keep the rental simple and store the rest.
- Downsizing parents. We can hold belongings while the family decides what stays, what’s donated and what goes. Our senior moving team takes it slow and patient.
- Staging a home for sale. Clearing out extra furniture helps rooms show bigger. We hold it and bring it back after you sell.
- Interior designers. Trade partners use the same warehouse for receiving and project holds through our designer services.
Local tips for a smooth move-and-store
A few things we’ve learned moving families from Doylestown to Allentown and from Reading to West Chester:
- Reserve early in spring and summer. Closings cluster at the end of the month and around the school calendar. Two to four weeks ahead is ideal in peak season, and earlier is better if you need storage too.
- Pack a “gap box.” Anything you’ll need between homes, like documents, chargers, medications, school items and a few changes of clothes, should ride with you, not go into storage.
- Label for the new house. Mark boxes by the room they’ll go to in the new home, not the room they came from. Delivery day goes much faster.
- Tell us about tricky spots. Narrow stairs in older Bucks County homes, long driveways in Chester County, apartment or HOA rules in Montgomery County. The more we know, the better we plan the crew and truck.
- Keep your realtor in the loop. If your closing shifts, a quick call to us lets us adjust storage and delivery without a scramble.
